Orkelbogen is a checkpoint during the 2017 Femund Race. The mushers are expected to arrive Orkelbogen from 7 PM Saturday afternoon until Sunday morning. Some of the mushers might only take a short stop, while others may choose to take their 8-hour mandatory rest here at Orkelbogen.
Organizer of checkpoint: Administrators of the checkpoint is Kvikne IL in cooperation with Orkelbogen Friluftssenter. Locals from Kvikne and volunteers are running the checkpoint. Information: The checkpoint itself is located at Fætten, an area close to Orkelbogen Friluftssenter.
The checkpoint is open to the audience, with possibilities to buy something to eat and drink. There will be entertainment, activities, race updates and a speaker. The area is well lit so it is easy to see the teams even at night. In the lavvu, race status and GPS-tracking will be shown on a big screen.
The checkpoint: On the arena, there will be warm and cold food and drinks for sale. There will be horseback riding, live updates on a big screen, a warm lavvu and good atmosphere. There will also be possibilities to ski the Femund Race trail before the race start.
Checkpoint award: First team reaching Orkelbogen wins NOK 15.000 if they finish the race.
Accommodation (for mushers): Mushers can sleep in a heated 3-men lavvu or in a 16-men military tent without heating. The mushers can also sleep outside.
Dining: There will be an indoor cafeteria at the checkpoint.
